Police and Public Safety
Dan has championed proactive change in policing and fire/EMS services in Roseville, to more effectively and transparently serve the community at the highest levels of service.
POLICE: Dan is grateful for the continued evolution of the Roseville Police Department to one that proactively engages with all in our community and provides information and transparency, all the while maintaining a high expectation of professionalism and ongoing improvement. This includes special and above-minimum-requirement training for dealing with mental health, crisis intervention, and de-escalation.
Roseville Police already met the suggested requirements of “8 That Can’t Wait” –policies that became an important yardstick to measure local policing after the killing of George Floyd in Minneapolis in 2020.
Roseville’s implementation of our Community Action Team (CAT) with officers teamed with 2 dedicated social workers and a City housing navigator is truly innovative, and allows people in need to receive the most appropriate and safe support we can offer when they are in need or in crisis. Dan has supported this effort, including the hiring of new officers and investigators to complement the CAT team.
Dan has also been highly supportive of Roseville Police Department’s creation and integration of its Multicultural Advisory Committee (MAC) into its departmental engagement and decision-making processes. The MAC is making a real difference in how policing is done in Roseville.
The next iteration of Roseville Police is implementation of the 2025 department operations study recommendations that enhance resources and staffing for the department’s needs going forward. Personnel additions in the 2026 budget are part of the first step of that implementation.
FIRE/EMS: Fire and emergency medical services continue to be important to Roseville, and Dan has supported the transition of the Fire Department from part-time paid-on-call firefighters to a core full-time staff to ensure full staffing on all shifts and to stabilize costs of hiring and training new firefighters. That support has continued as the department has implemented Advanced Life Saving capabilities in addition to the previous Basic Life Saving. This will help those in medical emergencies get more advanced and critical care, including certain key medications and treatments, from our first responders that can make all the difference in the time before an ambulance arrives.
The latest improvement Dan supported was the hiring of 15 new firefighter/EMS personnel in 2026, initially funded by Federal grant dollars. This significant investment in Fire staffing is designed to provide better ability to respond to multiple simultaneous calls, which is becoming more common each year, as well as to be sure all shifts are covered during times of absences, and that all shifts have supervisory staffing which is critical to incident response. All of these improvements are also intended to improve the health and wellbeing of all of our firefighter/EMS responders by reducing pressures from increased call volumes.
